Rules and Regulations for String Competition
Deadline - April 25, 2025
- The string competition is open to any student from Abbotsford, or a student who studies with a teacher in Abbotsford for private lessons, chamber ensemble or orchestra.
- String Celebration of Music Competition will take place on Tuesday, May 27th between 9 am and 4 pm
- Venue: Peace Lutheran Church, 2029 Ware Street. Abbotsford
- Adjudicator: Monika Niedzielko
- Competition is in 4 categories, Primary (Intro to 2), Junior (3 to 5), Intermediate (6 to 8), Senior (9 to ARCT). Their will be 5 trophies awarded.
One for each category, and one for best performance of a Canadian work. Trophy winners may be invited to perform at the honours concert on Saturday, May 31st
- Competition is in 4 categories, Primary (Intro to 2), Junior (3 to 5), Intermediate (6 to 8), Senior (9 to ARCT). Their will be 5 trophies awarded.
- Gold, Silver and Bronze level performances will be eligible for a cash prize. For a “work in progress level” no prize will be awarded.
- Students are required to provide their own accompanist.
- This festival is for amateurs only. An amateur is a musician who does not derive their living from performing their instrument.
- There are no refunds, and no rescheduling is possible.
- If you show up late to the festival you forfeit your performance opportunity
- There are no “playoffs”.
- Repeats should be avoided except in the case of a Minuet and Trio, or exceptional cases. If you have a question, please check a minimum of a week before the festival with Calvin Dyck at chdyck@shaw.ca
- An original copy of the music must be provided to the adjudicator, IMSLP is also acceptable. Photocopies are not allowed.
- In all matters of adjudication, the decision of the Adjudicator is final.
- If you received a trophy in 2024, please return to Calvin Dyck by April 1st, 2025. chdyck@shaw.ca
