December 2021 Minutes

Conference 2022

Susan Schleppe presented an overview of the BCRMTA 2022 provincial conference planned for September 16 and 17.  It will be held at the Tigh na mara Resort in Parksville, BC.  Edwin Gnandt will be the key note speaker, competition adjudicator and will also present a piano master class.  Other presenters are David Duke, Rena Sharon and Shamma Sabir.  Workshops and presentations will be scheduled in a linear fashion so that attendees can attend all sessions rather than choosing from concurrent events.

The cost for registration is $275 which includes the full conference and all meals on Saturday.

The fee for virtual participation is $89.00 . The cost for lodging is approximately $200, based on two-person occupancy.  Other options for housing are available.  Please check the resort website.

Discussion which followed the presentation focused on two matters:

  1. Clarification is needed on the vaccination policy for attendees and competition participants.
  2. The necessity of providing financial assistance to our branch representative for the student competition. Do we as a branch want to fund raise?  Will the provincial BCRMTA help with funding?  Dina will bring these two matters to the attention of the conference committee chair.

Canada Music Week Recital comments and feedback:

  • Thanks to Jean for hosting the event
  • Students need to be sharing their recordings on a strong enough internet connection to allow for satisfactory broadcasting.

Reminder to renew our membership. Registration opens on January 1, 2022.
