BCRMTA ABBOTSFORD BRANCH MINUTES FOR September 9, 2022

  • Meeting was held at Mill Lake Park at 10:00 a.m.
  • Present: Dina,  Betty, Jean, Adele, Joyce, Ewa, Sook
  1. Canada Music Week:
  • Highest RCM marks for September 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022 to be submitted to Jean by October 1, 2022
  • The goal is to have a live recital!
  • Betty will MC.
  • Jean will be the convener and make the program: pieces sent by November 4
  • Joyce to secure the venue
  • Jean will order the awards and notify the teachers when she has them.
  • Teachers of award winners responsible to pick up awards from Jean and get a photo of their students with their awards to Dina by October 25.
  • Dina will prepare a video of all the award winners to be played at the recital to make the evening more compact.
  • Time limit per piece: 6 minutes
  • Preference is Canadian music as previous years however, the music is not limited to that
  • Date: November 18 or 19, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.( date is depending on the venue’s availability)
  • Students will be able to pick up refreshments on the way out of the venue: a bagged snack and bottle of water.
  1. October 7 meeting on Zoom.
  2. November 4 meeting at CVAM.
  3. December 2:2 hour workshop with Jared Dunn ($300.00)
  4. January 6, 2023 meeting on Zoom.
  5. Joyce presented our scholarship/festival plans
  • The students submit a video as this spring….only uTube videos will be accepted.
  • Students get a written adjudication by a hired adjudicator. These will be available digitally only
  • A day or two of performing will then take place where each entrant performs live. If a student is to win an award but is unable to perform live, they forfeit their award.
  • Awards are not announced prior to live performance.
  • Winners are chosen through the video submission, not the live performance. The performance day is simply an opportunity to Celebrate Music in Live Performance.
  • The performance day(s) will be divided by level categories: Primary, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior.
  • Calvin is willing to fundraise…….thank you from the branch!!
  • Calvin plans to organize a masterclass for the string students.
  • The string portion will be open to students in the community and not necessarily studying with teachers in the branch.
  • Serious consideration is to charge an entrance fee of $10.00 - $25.00 depending on the level.
  • The desire to have Bronze, Silver, and Gold placement.
  • The piano portion of the competition will remained closed to students of the branch teachers
